The Games Awards va a ser el sucessor espiritual de los VGX pese no estar afiliado ni producido por SpikeTV. Se deja el formato del año pasado para volver al de gala de premios con "world premiers" de títulos que están por llegar. Además, este año se rendirá homenaje a los e-Sports y otras personalidades que han estado involucrados en la expansión de este pasatiempo. Como siempre el show estará producido por Geoff Keighley.

Jurado

Los nominados para The Game Awards 2014 son elegidos por un jurado internacional de 28 periodistas. Algunos miembros del jurado han recibido códigos avanzados de determinados juegos por salir a la venta con tal de alcanzar las fechas límites para emitir los votos. El juego debe haber sido puesto en venta antes del 25 de Noviembre con tal de ser seleccionable para The Game Awards 2014.

Advisory Board

Por una noche todos las compañías y distribuidoras dejan a un lado la competencia el poder de los videojuegos. The Game Awards 2014 está producido por Geoff Keighly y guiado por una Junta Consultora, con algunos de los lideres ejecutivos y mentes creativas de la industria.

Nominados

Todos los premios serán determinados por el jurado a excepción de las categorias "Juego Más Esperado", "Mejor creación de un fan", "Jugador influyente", "Mejor jugador de eSports del año" y "Mejor equipo de eSports del año".
