Se han desvelado los primeros detalles y las novedades que incluirá: por primera vez, se podrá configurar la banda con varios de los instrumentos posibles del juego. Así, podremos tener una banda con dos guitarras y dos baterías, o tres guitarras y un micrófono. El contenido descargable de Guitar Hero: World Tour será compatible con esta versión, actualizándose con sus nuevas opciones.

Dos de los nuevos modos de juego serán Party Play, en el que los jugadores pueden salir y entrar en la canción cuando quieran, y RockFest, un modo multijugador competitivo con cinco nuevos modos de juego tanto offline como online. Además, todas las canciones estarán disponibles desde el principio.

Finalmente, Guitar Hero 5 mejorará el GHMusic Studio, haciéndolo más completo y accesible, e incluirá también el modo "Band Moments", donde tendremos que completar secuencias de notas determiandas correctamente, o interpretar canciones de la manera que nos vaya pidiendo el juego. Estará en las tiendas a finales de este año.

Activision ha anunciado que Guitar Hero 5, además de contar con el tema "No One To Depend On" de Santana, el mítico Guitarrista estará disponible como personaje jugable en esta nueva entrega del título musical de PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 y Wii.

Tim Riley, Vicepresidente de Asuntos Musicales de Guitar Hero, ha declarado que:

"Estamos encantados de contar con uno de los mejores guitarristas de todos los tiempos en Guitar Hero 5 y ofrecer a los aficionados la oportunidad de jugar con el icono Carlos Santana. Shirley Manson entra en el mundo de los videojuegos con Guitar Hero 5

La cantante y actriz ofrece su imagen y canciones a Guitar Hero 5.

La saga Guitar Hero acaba de incluir a Shirley Manson, actriz y cantante nominada a los premios Grammy con su banda de rock alternativo Garbage, que pasa a ofrecer su imagen y sus canciones al esperado Guitar Hero 5. Manson se une al elenco de artistas que aparecen como personajes en el juego. Guitar Hero 5 cuenta con 85 canciones en el disco, incluyendo una gran variedad de géneros de música moderna, desde indie y alternativa a los clásicos himnos de rock y metal, pasando por su Only Happy When It Rains el único avance de la banda de su auto titulado álbum debut, Garbage.

Este mes de Septiembre, podrás sentirte como las grandes leyendas del rock sin salir de tu habitación, protagonizando a las teclas de Guitar Hero los éxitos del rock de todos los tiempos incluyendo los hits de The Rolling Stones, The White Stripes, Kings of Leon, Tom Petty y Bob Dylan entre otros grandes artistas de diversos géneros musicales que harán su debut en los videojuegos musicales. Con Guitar Hero 5, los jugadores asumirán el control, pudiendo personalizar su experiencia musical, jugar con cualquier combinación de instrumentos (más de un cantante, guitarrista, bajista, o batería) en nuevos modos de juego más divertidos y sociales que nunca.

Disponible a mediados de Septiembre, Guitar Hero 5 se lanzará en PlayStation 3 y PlayStation 2 y ha sido calificado para mayores de 12 años por PEGI.

Activision ha anunciado que Matt Bellamy, lider del grupo Británico Muse, estará presente en forma de personaje jugable en Guitar Hero 5 además de contar entre el repertorio del juego con el tema del grupo, "Plug in baby".

Matt se une así a artistas de la talla de Johnny Cash, Carlos Santana y Shirley Manson, que también estarán presentes en la última entrega del juego musical.
