Tier F:
Units which, for one reason or another, are impossible to recommend. This can include, but is not limited to:
Units with critical protections not claimed, not present/working when tested, or severely malfunctioning, allowing for potential catastrophic failure of the unit, or severely out-of-spec performance under conditions which should have been prevented based on advertised feature set.
Units which, for any reason, cannot be trusted to work safely in their intended role.
Units with extremely poor electrical performance to the degree that they are unable to remain in compliance with the ATX specification within their rated parameters.
Units which present with serious quality control problems leading to widespread premature failure of the units.
Any power supply without active power factor correction (APFC), due to APFC being a hard requirement for passing environmental regulations in many jurisdictions, which in turn means that APFC is typically one of the last features to be dropped once every other cost has been cut. Units missing APFC can most easily be identified by the presence of an input voltage switch, often red in color, on the rear of units with full input range; some 230V-only units (without an input voltage switch) may also lack APFC.
