Welcome to the SRWZ original story 101. So I've finally finished the game...the story was a bit more complex than a typical SRW. In this topic, I'm going to explain in order what the original story in this game was basically about, for those of you who care yet don't understand Japanese. I would like to, however, make several notes before I begin:
1) I've only played through Rand route, good ending, therefore I do not recognize anything different in Setsuko route or bad endings.
2) This will be full of spoilers. It will literally spoil the whole game for you, so if you haven't finished it at least once, I advise you to go back.
3) I'm writing this based purely on my memory. If there's something wrong, feel free to point out.
4) I'm going to include my own speculations on some matters, but I'll make it so that they are obvious.
Now let's begin...First, you need to understand the "ultimate power" that works behind the Zverse. As Asakim calls it...
Taiji, the ultimate will of the existence
The alpha and omega of all existence. It controls all events that occur, including the Black History. Using what's called "Origin Law", Taiji would display its will; an example is the "Divine Army" you fought against in stage 57 (composing of number of Big O, Big Duo, and Big Four), whose purpose was to eliminate the Singularities known as ZEUTH. Another example are the three The Edel you fought against in the last stage; The Edel, accessing a portion of the Origin Law, called two of his other selves from different dimensions. This takes us to the relationship between...
Taiji, Black History, Paradigm City, and Break The World incident
The repetition of Black History (watch Turn A for explanation of Black History) is by the will of Taiji. At the end of Black History, Taiji would "reset" the Singularities who are the central cause of the Black History. However, because nothing, not even Taiji could erase the proof of existence, Taiji instead wipes out their memories and placing them in a lab cage known as the Paradigm City (Big O) where its residents would play their assigned roles. Afterwards, the dimension would collapse, thereby creating a new world where Black History would rise on its foot once again. This is known as Break The World.
So what actually is "Taiji"? Its attributes were never explained. Asakim, however, claims that his time has frozen due to the curse of Taiji cast upon him. He claims that he has committed sin in the past which sent him straight to the eternal damnation. It is due to this that Asakim has gotten himself involved in...
The Holy War
This "Holy War" involves 12 chosen participants, called "Spheres". It is believed that the last one standing of the Holy War would become the next Taiji, thereby receiving the power to control all destiny (strikingly similar to Fate/stay Night's Holy Grail War...). Asakim aims to gain the crown to free himself from this "curse". Due to this, it's safe to say that Asakim is one of the...
Spheres
Spheres are a form of entrance ticket to the Holy War. These would manifest on different entities over different universes. However, to actually "kill" a Sphere, it must be fully awakened. This is done by invoking dark emotions, such as sadness and anger, around it. This is why Asakim staged a betrayal; to inflict those dark emotions on Rand to have Mail's Sphere feed on them. Without taking the proper steps first, just killing the host would allow the Sphere to escape and manifest on a different entity.
One thing I can conclude is that Spheres have their own wills. To explain it, you'll have to understand the story behind...
Gunleon and the incident 4 years ago
Gunleon, a Black History figure, was first excavated by Mail's dad, Cielo Beater, who turned it into a repair bot. This is where the Sphere, "Wounded Lion" first manifested on Gunleon. Presumably, the reason for choosing Gunleon is that "Wounded Lion" rejects the idea of the Holy War, so it chose to manifest on something seemingly away from dark emotions to prevent itself from feeding on them.
Four years ago, The Beater Service was attacked by thieves; in this incident, Mail is killed. To save her life, the Sphere manifested on Mail. However, the side effects would freeze Mail's time. This is the reason Mail has not changed her appearance even after four years. At the end of the game though, as "Wounded Lion" resonanced with The Edel's Sphere when Rand was stopping him from destroying the Singularity Point (Unius 7), it supposedly escaped, possibly to avoid feeding on The Edel's dark emotions of having his world destroyed. To accomodate this event, Mail instantly grew 4 years older. Does this also mean that a Sphere is able to give a new life to the dead? Who knows...
So we've had several Sphere holders in this universe. The list of...
Currently known Sphere Holders
1. Mail (we can assume she is no longer a holder at the end of the game; the Sphere has escaped to find its next host)
2. Setsuko (she is defeated by Asakim near the end of the game, but not quite killed; Asakim mentions that her Sphere has not awaken yet)
3. Asakim? (just by the fact that he's participating in the Holy War. We can assume he'll make more appearances in sequel since he is not eliminated)
4. The Edel Bernal (eliminated, so I think it's safe to assume that's one Sphere eliminated from the Holy War)
There you have it. Many things were left open for most likely SRWZ2 and further sequels. Now onto the smaller things...
Chimera
A special force in the Federation. Its goal is purely to dominate in the name of dictatorship. They utilize the UN (a.k.a. Internet) to manipulate people's thoughts. It composes only of 4 members:
1. Levin Generahl
A demented women hater and devoted Edel follower. He went undercover in ZEUTH to manipulate its members to do dirty work for Chimera's goal. Believes the world only needs one woman, and that's Edel. Supposedly, he has had a traumatic experience in his childhood which fueled his hatred for women. Pilot of Chaos Leo.
2. Shuran Opel
A bisexual who acts cool to hide his true desires. He loves and hates Levin for being straight all the time, and wants to become him. If you kill Levin before Shuran in chapter 59, all of his battle lines will become love poem to Levin...let's not even talk about his face graphic. Pilot of Chaos Anguis.
3. Xine Espio
Unfortunate lady who lost all of her subordinates in the beginning of SRWZ; when the Time Bomb went off to trigger Break The World incident. For this, she has strong hatred for Kei and chaotic world. She follows Chimera's ideals because of this. She loves Asakim because he promised to free her from the agony. She also supposedly knew of The Edel's existence and worked for him because he's the only free being who could liberate her. Pilot of Chaos Caper, otherwise known as Eliphas.
4. Edel Bernal
A doll made by The Edel Bernal. She acts as the head of Chimera but her personality, life goal, and emotions were all "set" by The Edel. She is programmed to obey any order given by The Edel. The scene in the last stage where she spinned 3 times and barked was golden. Pilot of Lemures.
And now the grand figure of all this mess...
The Edel Bernal/Dr.Jieh/Black Charisma
Oh boy. Where to begin...
First, this guy is a nut job. He makes psychos like Rau Le Crueset look like a 0 year old baby. For an unexplained reason, he's able to control portion of the Origin Law, and enjoys this chaotic world thoroughly and treats it as his playground. His actions have no meanings whatsoever other than to provide him with entertainment. He's also a masochist. The only reason he made Edel hit him is because he enjoys being hit and trash talked at.
That said, he made Edel. In so doing, he casted Bind Spell upon her, and programmed her to obey any order after the phrase "I love you~". Using this, he controlled Edel as Dr.Jieh while enjoying his afternoon masochism treat. In the final stage, he invited himself from other universes using the Origin Law. His mech, Chaos Lemures's data composes of data stolen from Sphere mechs, including Gunleon.
In the end, he was supposedly killed upon the dimension fix after resonating with Mail's Sphere. There is no question that this guy is Banpresto's most original villain yet. For once, let's have a villain who just wants to have fun killing and destroying stuff and does it with comical expressions. Yeah!
So what happened at the end?
The dimension fix was successful. People wished for the chaotic world to remain. Aquarion OVA, Daitarn 3's storyline, and CCA storyline were probably confirmed for SRWZ2 with the ending alone.
Possible ties to other SRW titles
These are purely my speculations. None of them should be taken seriously.
- Any dimension travellors; Cobray, Gilliam, Fighter Roa, etc. are highly likely to be Sphere holders, seeing as how Spheres travel between dimensions
- Chaos Lemures uses various technologies of the chaotic world; thus opening up the doors for a reasonable introduction of Astranagant/Dis Astranagant in OG when combined with dimension travelling
- Highly likely that Masaki and Cybuster were part of OG's version of Black History; within it somewhere, he has committed a sin which caused him to lose his Masaki persona and chained him to his fate as Asakim
- The Database was created by Taiji to write the Akashic Record
- During Break The World, Bless was thrown into the universe 150 million years ago where he witnessed the Black History of The Database's rampage; in order to prevent it, he created the Val series
- The Database's rampage was planned by The Edel (posing as Black Charisma)
Phew. Hope that was worth of some read. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll try my best to answer them.
I think I'm going to put off this game for a while...spent too much time on it. T_T
