One characteristic is you can manually operate the car the party rides in or sit back and listen to Noctis and his companions chat while it’s driven automatically.
Their conversations aren’t merely simple chats, but are becoming the catalyst for the game’s developments.
By the way, you can also walk, but I think you’ll have trouble if you try only walking around because the world is so vast. (Laughs) When you are separated from the car you can also summon it on the spot, so it might be a good challenge to try out once.
– Are there situations where enemies attack while you’re riding in the car and you have to get out to fight?
Tabata: Of course there are. By the way, among the enemies there are really tough guys out there, so if you take too much time fighting it might become nighttime on you.
– Tell me about the renewed battle system.
Tabata: The battles take place in real time action. However, you are always fighting alongside your companions, so they are action battles with a stress party cooperation. The system is operated in an even simpler manner than in Type-0.
Cooperation with your companions is carried out automatically, but since there are easy to use weapon and ability co-op components, we are preparing it so you have fun figuring out which settings work through trial and error, trying out one combo and then another.
– Please tell us about your intention to put out a FFXV demo.
Tabata: Mostly I wanted fans to see the progress we’ve made to get this title to a point where we could put out a demo version. Especially since fans have been waiting so long for it. The main point isn’t to get feedback from the demo version, so much as it is just to show fans what it’s like in it’s current form.
Of course we plan to respond to the feedback we receive from those who play it to the best of our abilities.
Tabata: It’s not a preorder bonus, it will come with the basic purchase of Type-0 HD. A download code for the FFXV demo version will come in the package of Type-0 HD, so you’ll receive it in the form of a download you get by entering a code.
By the way, Type-0 HD is releasing worldwide, but the FFXV demo in Japan will have Japanese voice acting and English voice acting in the overseas versions.
I’m assuming that the actual game will take about 40 hours to clear, so comparing it in simple terms, the demo is about 1/40th of the actual game’s content. (Laughs)
2006-10:
CG Trailers, Pre-production work begins with a very small team of artists and writers and planners.
FFXIII,XIV pull the core teams here.
2010-2011
Small team working on the Versus...XIII-2 begins,XIV flops.
Early working prototype shown in the 2011 trailer
Planning for ARR revival begins.SE issues XIV apology and takes it very seriously.
Planning for XIII-2 in full steam.
VersusXIII full production simply cannot begin
2012-2013
XIII-2,LR,ARR full steam ahead.
SE cannot dump the valuable pre-production work done by small team under Nomura over many years : Prototype is switching to next gen in 2012..Enter Tabata.
Nomura still co-director.
Next gen switch and tech hurdles coupled with a still small team establishing some newly revised framework for what is now FFXV.
2013
Mix of cross gen work shown at E3,Game acquires a full team after ARR releases and XIII trilogy ends , KH3 premature announcement.
2013-2014
Nomura must be moved to KH3 which is facing developmental issues
FFXV finally gets a full 300 man production team under Tabata's sole leadership.
Much of Nomura's pre-production was used but the battle system is completely revised..
2014-2015-2016
Tabata proceeds with the game. Nomura making KH3.
Nomura got screwed over because just as soon as he has a chance to make a game, the behemoth that is KH3 pulls him away from Versus.Overall management in the company is messed up.

– How are things since Yoshihisa Hashimoto, the person in charge of Luminous development, resigned?
Tabata: We are fine on that point. Luminous was being developed as an all-purpose engine, but currently, the Luminous development team has been integrated into the FFXV team, and it is progressing as a custom engine optimized for FFXV. Hashimoto accomplished his role for us in establishing the form of the general use Luminous engine. Thanks to Luminous being integrated, we are able to do things like convert high end 3D data for in game use and the challenge of presenting movies made in Visual Works so they move as is has become easier.
Taking advantage of the next generation console’s specifications, characters can move around the entire screen and the traditional party battle of Final Fantasy games is evolved so you can enjoy battle even more strategically by switching party members.

Tabata: Weapon circling thing "phantom Sword" will be in the game.
Tabata: the base of KH movement from Versus time is still in the game.
new info on XV coming on Paris game event.
But the battle system is XV's own, not KH or Type-0.
So far I think Tabata is doing a fantastic job on damage control in this Q&A. He's addressing various question head on and not evading anything. He really has cleared up a lot of concerns for better or for worse.
- He says that the E3 gameplay battle footage was playable, but an earlier version. I believe he said you can still play the game on that level, but it was showing off more advanced moves and so on. I think he said it was a prototype concept that they are working towards in development.
- With regards to the "hold button for awesome" comments, he says that the defensive stance drains MP, so you can't just hold the button forever and be invincible. There are also more technical aspects of evasion which are more advanced. For attacking, you hold the button for basic combos, but there are also advanced action aspects with regards to timing and attacking in certain directions, or influenced by equipment.
- He confirms you can jump in the game. The battle system in FFXV is Active Cross Battle (AXB), and Noctis is the only playable character. You control Noctis because the entire battle system is built around him and how the other party members interact with him.
- He also talks about the the weapon switching too. Instead of active weapon switching during combat, it uses player settings prepared in advance. This is likely part of the gambit-like system he talked about before. The weapon used is automatic based on the conditions, but it sounds like the player has control over how those conditions are determined.
