Los cables HDMI incrementan mucho su precio con la longitud, por lo que si necesitamos algún cable largo el importe a pagar será elevado. El Honeywell HDMI-to-Cat5 intenta paliar ese problema sustituyendo el cable HDMI por el cable que se usa en la redes Ethernet, mucho más barato.

Los adaptadores se incrustan en la pared, como si fueran un enchufe y se unen con ese cable Cat5, permitiendo distancias grandes a un coste reducido.

El único problema que le veo es el gran ancho de banda que usa el HDMI, que no se si será capaz de soportar el Cat5, así que habrá que asegurarse de sus especificaciones antes de adquirir estos adaptadores.

It accommodates HDMI, HDTV, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. In addition, it is fully compatible with DVI, while also supporting VGA, SVGA, XGA, SXGA and UXGA computer resolutions.

HDMI to Cat5 Converters are available through Honeywell dealers starting mid-December. Pricing is not available.
