Salt shaker at the ready, file this strictly under rumour and gossip but there has been mention of the BBC show ‘Top Gear’ on consoles.

An interview at MCV with BBC Worldwide’s vice president for digital entertainment, Robert Nashak, states that the BBC hired him because ‘BBC Worldwide needed a games specialist, one that not only knows consoles, but PC, online, casual, mobile.’

The interview continues with the following text;

“Nashak was the ideal candidate for the BBC. As well as EA, he held roles at Glu, Acclaim, Disney, Yahoo and Vivendi. But before he could begin taking Top Gear to consoles he had to build a team to build out the BBC Worldwide games offer.”

And then a little later,

“…developing games for the likes of Top Gear…”

So we put two and two together – the BBC are definitely working on a Top Gear game and if that little slip of keyboard is correct, it’s coming to consoles. Now before you get all excited it could just be the writer of the article casually throwing the word console about, however MCV do have a habit of ‘accidently’ dropping bombshells in the middle of routine news items.

Or course ‘consoles’ could include Wii and DS rather than the Xbox and PS3 but it seems sensible to have all that manly motoring stuff (rawr!) on the more ‘butch’ consoles.

If you follow the Call of Duty series at all, you might recall the founding of Activision Blizzard's Sledgehammer Games studio. Tasked with the creation of a brand new Call of Duty game, Sledgehammer’s first foray into the field is said to be a departure from the standard FPS formula that made the series famous. While that game has yet to fully surface, it looks as though Sledgehammer may be hard at work on another, currently unannounced title.

Take a look over at Sledgehammer’s open jobs at Linkedin. The use of the new Call of Duty title is liberally used in job descriptions like this one. However, an opening for a gameplay engineer states these ambiguous words:

“Sledgehammer Games is looking for an exceptional gameplay engineer to join our talented team. The candidate will be involved in the creation of gameplay moments and gameplay related features for an unannounced high-end console title, bringing areas such as enemy setups, intense moment to moment action, and player immersion to a new level.”

Perhaps it’s just a mistake in words? That’s doubtful since it’s widely known that they’ve got that Call of Duty title in the working. So if this is a brand new, second title for Sledgehammer then what could it be?

That’s all up for speculation but if I had to guess, it might be something along the lines of what Visceral Games did for EA with Dead Space. Okay, maybe not a space horror exactly, but something off-kilter that deals in only action perhaps. Whatever the case, with two former veterans of Visceral at the helm of Sledgehammer, you can expect something of quality material.

¡Dios!.

Raul Ramirez, producer at Junction Point, has said talks are going on over at the studio regarding the possibility of bringing Epic Mickey to PS3 and Xbox 360 now that Move is out and Kinect is coming soon.

Speaking with TVG at TGS, Ramirex said “of course that seems to be what everybody feels now that those controls have come in,” regarding the possibility of Epic Mickey for Move or Kinect.

“There are talks going on, but… I don’t know,” he added.

Warren Spector has stated quite a few times in the past it was “possible” the game could eventually hit PS3 and Xbox 360, and once even said no one had asked him for a port yet.

He did, however, say before Move and Kinect he “probably would have said no” to a port due to the game being gesture based.

Time will tell we suppose. Maybe an eventual sequel will hit all formats.

THQ has claimed that the price of video games will drop in future - and could even go free-to-play - as publishers release less content on-disc.

According to THQ boss Brian Farrell, the future of console gaming is most likely see stripped-down titles bought at retail for $29 - $39.

Gamers will then have the option to download extra content to the tune of around $100 if they so wish.

THQ is experimenting with the hybrid model with its MX Vs ATV off-road racing title, due for release next year.

However, Farrell told investors this week that a free-to-play model - where gamers only pay for in-game items and extra content after a gratis initial sale - was also a possibility.

"You might know we are the industry leader in off-road racing in gaming with our MXVs ATV brand," Farrell told the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference in New York. "In the past, we've seen that we bring the game out at $59.99 and it does reasonably well - around one million, or one million-and-a-half units.

"When we lower the price to a mass market price the thing really jumps... So what we're doing this time is we're coming out initially with a smaller game at a lower price point - the $29 to $39 range.

"We're then doing a download model for different modes, different tracks, different vehicles. It's what we call a hybrid - it's a bit of the microtransaction and DLC model.

"It does a couple of things: I'm a big believer in monetising under the curve, so we capture that $29 to $39 user no matter what, and a person that wants to spend $100 on the product can do so as well.

He added: "I think that's the future of gaming - whether it's this model or a take on the free-to-play model. It's where our industry is going and this is a very, very interesting experiment with one of our key brands."

Shift llegará a PS3 y PSP

After 2,000,000 apps downloaded and more than 180,000 sold: SHIFT, launched on PC by Armor Games and adapted on the iPhone in 2009 by Fishing Cactus, is a game which quickly found its audience.

No. 1 of its category on Apple’s website, this new concept was immediately well-received by the players on the App Store, allowed it to reach the top 5 of US sells in just a few days. More than 14 million players have indeed played SHIFT whose innovative game experience and realization have been welcomed by several websites. SHIFT has been awarded several prices and ranked among the 50 best games released on iPhone in 2009. It was only a matter of time before SHIFT would make its entrance on the PlayStation Store.

Fishing Cactus is in charge of the technical transition and enrichment of this title, which will be available on PSP and PlayStation 3 through the PlayStation Network.

Having already adapted SHIFT on the iPhone assures a unique and entertaining game for the players with extra gameplay features. The PlayStation Network version called 'SHIFT extended' will offer no less than double the content of the iPhone version. It will definitly stand out from the other puzzle games out there thanks to its significant amount of content, its spotless realisation and its unique gameplay mechanics. The game is expected to be released before the end of this year.

Ubisoft consideró realizar un "Prince of Persia" contemporáneo

Can you imagine seeing a Persian prince jumping and swinging around modern skyscrapers? According to a new report publisher Ubisoft at one time had such plans for its Prince of Persia game franchise. Computer and Video Games reports that Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, a former Ubisoft team member (now working at Square Enix on Deus Ex: Human Revolution) stated that he worked on a version of the Prince of Persia series "in the contemporary world."

According to him, "Think a bit Day After Tomorrow, but replace the snow with sand and everything. It was really wicked." Unfortunately the game was canceled for unnamed reasons. Ubisoft went on to make the cel-shaded Prince of Persia revamp and this year released the disappointing Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.

THQ’s Brian Farrell has said the company plans to experiment with a hybrid model of monetization with its titles in the future.

Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia XIX investors meeting this week, the company president used the firm’s next installment in its motocross as an example, stating it’s to be released at a smaller price point and then switch over to a hybrid of microtransaction and DLC based pricing.

“Normally, we bring the thing out at $59.99, and it does reasonably well – one million to one and a half million units, then when we lower the price to a mass market price and the thing really jumps at the mass markets because, as you might expect, MX is a very mass market brand,” he explained.

“So what we’re doing this time is coming out initially with a smaller game at a lower price point, at the $29-$39 range, and then doing a download model for different modes, different tracks, different vehicles. We call it hybrid because it’s a take on the microtransaction and DLC models.

“I’m a big believer in monetizing everything under the curve so we capture that $29-$39 user no matter what, but if a person wants to spend a $100 on a game then they can do that as well.

“I think that’s the future of gaming. Whether it’s a take on this model or the free-to-play model, this is where our industry is going.”

Farrell said the new MX title is due out sometime during the company’s fiscal year 2012.

El próximo título de Respawn será multiplataforma

Respawn Entertainment has been quiet on the team's new project since the studio officially formed in April. A couple new job listings appearing on Gamasutra, however, confirm the game will not be platform exclusive.

"Respawn intends to develop a multi-platform product that works on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC," the listing reads. "Its product will be based on new video game IP and will be funded through its publishing deal with Electronic Arts, one of the top publishers in the industry."

Studio heads Jason West and Vince Zampella told IGN Respawn was developing a "big blockbuster" title. The team will own whatever franchise it builds, which is one of the major reasons Respawn signed a publishing deal with Electronic Arts.

West and Zampella are best known for creating the acclaimed Call of Duty franchise. The two were fired from Infinity Ward last March and are currently engaged with publisher Activision in a lawsuit.

The Eurogamer Expo is at Earls Court in London next Friday, Saturday and Sunday (1st to 3rd October) and consists of a huge show floor where you can play the likes of Gran Turismo 5, inFAMOUS 2, Killzone 3 and more, as well as a special auditorium where top game developers like Media Molecule and Guerrilla Games will be presenting their games and taking questions from the public.

Sony Goes Big At The Eurogamer Expo!

When we started the Expo our goal was to put on an event where everyone can come along and play the games they REALLY want to play without having to queue for four hours. I’ve done that at E3 and it is not fun! Over the years we’ve expanded it to include all sorts of other fun stuff and nowadays it’s a really great place to play games, talk to developers and meet like-minded gamers.

Enough of the hard sell though – you probably just want to hear exactly which PlayStation 3 games we have and which of your favourite developers are speaking, so here’s a rundown:

Playable games!

* Gran Turismo 5
* Heavy Rain (Move Edition)
* inFAMOUS 2
* Killzone 3 (some DualShock 3, some Move control)
* LittleBigPlanet 2
* MotorStorm Apocalypse
* SOCOM: Special Forces
* Sports Champions (Move)
* The Fight (Move)
* The Shoot (Move)

Developer sessions and public Q&A!

* Sucker Punch presents inFamous 2
* Guerrilla Games presents Killzone 3
* Media Molecule presents LittleBigPlanet 2
* Evolution Studios presents MotorStorm Apocalypse

Not content with that, we will also have a few 3D TVs on hand so you can experience PlayStation 3 titles in 3D – Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 3 and MotorStorm Apocalypse will all be available to try out in this configuration too.

Killzone 3 by PlayStation.Blog.Europe

As you can see we’ve also got PlayStation Move, so if you haven’t tried that yet – and you should – this is a great opportunity to see how it works in a variety of games.

There’s a lot of other Sony-related stuff going on too. Media Molecule’s having a fan meet-up at the event and should be selling some hot LittleBigPlanet merchandise, and of course there are tons of third-party games that will be available on PlayStation 3 for you to try as well – including Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Brink, Crysis 2, FIFA 11, Fallout: New Vegas, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and PES 2011. Yes, absolutely all of them are playable. We don’t believe in videos!

Tickets for Saturday at the Expo have now completely sold out, but we still have a few left for Friday 1st October and Sunday 3rd October. They’re priced £8 for the whole day and we’re open between 11am and 7pm. Head over to expo.eurogamer.net to buy tickets and get involved, and follow us on Twitter (@Eurogamer_Expo) or Facebook for more updates. We’ve still got some cool announcements to make in the next week.

Yeah. This is probably happening.

Square Enix’s Hajime Tabata has said the publisher is in the midst of “making adjustments” to make the PSN releases of Parasite Eve 1 and Parasite Eve 2 happen.

But while Tabata, director on Parasite Eve spin-off The 3rd Birthday, neared on the edge of confirmation, he did add in a further tweet on the Twitter for 3rd Birthday:

“Please wait until it has been finalized and formally announced.”

The re-releases of the PS1 titles has been hinted at before, with 3rd Birthday producer Yoshinori Kitase telling VG247 at gamescom Square was “aware” of the idea and it was “closely considering” it.

“For any sequel of the mainstream storyline of the Kingdom Hearts series, that would be Kingdom Hearts III. But the problem is that the opportunity of developing the sequel is not currently [possible]. The team is busy, I am busy.”

“I’m thinking about what’s going to be next after Kingdom Hearts II, the future that is Kingdom Hearts III. Time has nearly come to [work on] that concept.”

“It is my desire to develop the next Kingdom Hearts on the existing platform, but the problem with a new console is that it has new technical requirements… So, yes, I’m willing to create something on the existing console because when we aim for another non-existing future console, the release of the title will be far in the future. That’s my concern.”
Ron Gilbert se une a Double Fine!

Deathspank designer Ron Gilbert has joined old friend Tim Schafer at Double Fine Studios, he’s confirmed to Kotaku.

Schafer and Gilbert were together at LucasArts while co-designing The Secret of Monkey Island along with Dave Grossman.

Gilbert, who left Hothead Games earlier this April, was asked to join the developer after working on his own stuff outside of Double Fine while at the studio, admitting he didn’t like working from home.

“I’m really horrible working at home because all I do is other things rather than work,” he said.

“Being able to come into an office and be surrounded by other people helps.”

“For the last couple of months Tim has been loaning me his desk here, as he has in the past,” he added.

“We have just been talking about different ideas I’ve had for games, kinda going back and forth like we do, and then Tim suggested, ‘Hey why don’t you come here and build this thing.”

Gilbert’s new game at DF will be an entirely new concept.

Ojalá llegaran esos PE 1 y 2 a Europa... :(

Capcom Europe have teased that the publisher is set to announce two new titles tomorrow.

In a tweet from the company's Twitter account, the publisher states "Two new games announced tomorrow for the early birds amongst you here http://www.capcom-europe.com/blog at 7am."

Whilst the identity of such titles is unknown, Nintendo are due to hold a press conference in Japan tomorrow where it is expected that they will announce launch details for the anticipated release of their new 3DS handheld.

We'll be hedging our bets that the two are linked, but will keep you updated when the announcement is made.

Ignition detiene el desarrollo interno de "Wardevil"

International publisher Ignition Entertainment has shut down its internal London arm, and its associated projects - notably, the oft-delayed action title, WarDevil - with it.

However, the once PS3-exclusive title may still have a future. WarDevil recently passed the proof on concept stage, and if the title shows any promise, it could get outsourced to an external studio.

"This week saw the pre-scheduled completion of a six-month proof of concept project on the WarDevil / Project Kane titles internally, which the board and studio management are currently evaluating as to whether the required quality will be achieved by completing internally or with an external partner," Hassan Sadiq, group chairman at Ignition Entertainment, told GamesIndustry.biz.

WarDevil has been trapped in development hell for the better part of three years. The last time any news on the project surfaced was in 2009, when WarDevil was the cover story of Edge Magazine.

Guillermo del Toro has finally confirmed the rumor that THQ is the publisher for the gaming title he’s creating.

Speaking with MTV, the director told the site development time for the first title will take around three years, with it hitting sometime in 2013 as the “best case scenario”.

“We’re working together,” said del Toro. “Hopefully everything will come together in the next few days and we can formally announce it and so forth. But we are talking about huge games, huge world creation and long deadlines.

“With THQ we’re looking at around a three year developing deadline for each game. Big games. More details forthcoming, but we are truly exploring them in a serious manner. Expect the first game, best case scenario, 2013.”

According to del Toro, he’s been trying to pitch a game series since 2006, including one called Sundown.

“Sundown was eerily similar to Left 4 Dead, which I adore and am addicted to, and in our household is considered a family game,” he said. “I pitched another game that was not developed. That’s the same one I pitched [to THQ]. They took to it immediately. More details forthcoming. I don’t want to say everything because we’re going to announce it soon. But again, long deadline.

“It’s horror…but it’s a very different type of horror game. It’s not survival horror. It’s truly a strange, geeky mix. It’s a Lovecraftian thing. Let’s leave it at that.”

Sundown is not one of the game’s the director is working on with THQ, he added.

Hopefully an announcement will come sooner rather than later, then.

If it passed you by, Uncharted 3 was basically announced in January. Nolan North is definitely back as Nathan Drake, and Naughty Dog boasts that the game will be graphically superior to Uncharted 2.

Speaking to OPM in their latest issue, Evan Wells of Naughty Dog said:

"The team...won't let anything distract them. They already know what they want to do."

Nolan North said the game would start development in 2010, so it can't be fully formed yet; still, it's interesting that Naughty Dog seem to be so set on a certain passage. Darker? Grittier? Happier? IN SPACE?! Discuss below.

I'd quite like to see more realistic shooting. The first Uncharted struggled with hard-to-kill enemies, and Uncharted 2 mostly fixed that, but it still takes a few too many hot shards of lead to the chest to kill someone.
