Hola a todos, he visto esto en la red y quería compartirlo.

Salvatore Laconesi es un profesor universitario italiano que recientemente ha descubierto que tiene un cáncer en el cerebro. Salvatore es amante del software libre, y el fundador de http://www.artisopensource.net. La verdad es que el tipo ha tenido una idea cojonuda. Se ve que nada le detiene en su lucha por transmitir las bondades del software libre, y se las ha apañado para convertir sus datos médicos (que originalmente se encontraban en formatos privativos) a formatos libres, y ha decidido compartirlos con la comunidad.

En su página web, http://www.artisopensource.net/cure/ Salvatore alienta a todo tipo de personas, diseñadores, artistas, programadores, músicos, escritores, lo que sea, a utilizar libremente sus datos médicos para crear poemas, textos, videojuegos, obras artísticas, investigaciones, o por qué no, una cura para él.

Yo personalmente voy a dedicarle un rato a ver que puedo hacer con esa información que él, libremente, nos ofrece. Me parece una forma cojonuda de gastar el tiempo libre.

I have a brain cancer.

Yesterday I went to get my digital medical records: I have to show them to many doctors.
Sadly they were in a closed, proprietary format and, thus, I could not open them using my computer, or send them in this format to all the people who could have saved my life.

I cracked them.

I opened them and converted the contents into open formats, so that I could share them with everyone.

Just today I have been able to share the data about my health condition (about my brain cancer) with 3 doctors.

2 of them already replied.

I have been able to do it because the data used open, accessible formats: they have been able to open the files using their computers, their tablets. They have been able to reply from home, on sunday.

I will progressively publish all the replies I will receive, using open formats, so that anyone with my same disease will be able to benefit from the solutions I will find.

This is a CURE. This is my OPEN SOURCE CURE.

This is an open invitation to take part in the CURE.

CURE, in different cultures, means different things.

There are cures for the body, for spirit, for communication.

Recuperando la fe en la humanidad... Algunas personas hacen cosas bastante inesperadas e increíbles.

He visto unas cuantas imágenes de su cerebro pero tampoco encuentro nada que yo pueda hacer con ellas. No sé si lo he entendido del todo... Básicamente está animando a la gente a que utilice sus imágenes para escribir cuentos, historias, hacer imágenes... ¿Aunque no tengan nada que ver con él ni con su situación, y enviárselas?

Recuperando la fe en la humanidad... Algunas personas hacen cosas bastante inesperadas e increíbles.

He visto unas cuantas imágenes de su cerebro pero tampoco encuentro nada que yo pueda hacer con ellas. No sé si lo he entendido del todo... Básicamente está animando a la gente a que utilice sus imágenes para escribir cuentos, historias, hacer imágenes... ¿Aunque no tengan nada que ver con él ni con su situación, y enviárselas?

Para que nos entendamos, con la imaginación y la colaboración suficiente todo objetivo se hace menos lejano así que cualquier cosa puede llegar a ayudar y server de inspiración para los demás. Y aunque no pueda ayudar directamente, puede reconfortar bastante, ayudar a otros, ser inspiración para otras muchas cosas o vete a saber... gracias a esto pueden salir soluciones a muchos problemas, obras de arte, buenas historias, etc.

Puedes conocer el comienzo, puedes ir viendo el camino... pero nunca sabrás el final si es que alguna vez este tiene lugar. Es lo bonito del software libre y otras tecnologías o procedimientos abiertos como es el caso que nos ocupa.

Exactamente, él te da los datos, y tu con ellos ya haces lo que quieres, aquí entra ya la imaginación de cada uno... yo tampoco veo que puedo hacer con esos datos, aunque tengo una idea y quizá la desarrolle... ya veremos...

Pero me parece que esto representa genial lo que significa el software libre.
