Ubuntu arranca cuando quiere tras instalar drivers ATI

Hola amigos.

Veréis, quería pediros ayuda porque el otro día realicé una instalación limpia de la última versión de Ubuntu, la 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, y estoy teniendo unos problemas que ya tuve en su momento con la 8.10 y nunca conseguí resolver.

Tras instalar Ubuntu e iniciar por primera vez compruebo que todo funciona bien, excepto la aceleración gráfica 3D. Entonces me dirijo a la página web de ATI (tengo una Ati Radeon HD3850) y me descargo sus últimos drivers, los 9.4. Los instalo (con el comando sh) y una vez instalados ejecuto la linea "sudo aticonfig --initial -f". Mi xorg.conf queda de la siguiente manera:

Bien, parece que todo está correctamente instalado. Reincio mi PC, entro a Ubuntu y... no arranca, se queda en pantalla negra sin dar ningún tipo de señal. No puedo entrar al modo consola, así que me toca reinciar con el botón. Reincio, vuelvo a entrar y... igual. Reinicio unas 4 o 5 veces más y... más de lo mismo. Sin embargo AQUI VIENE LO RARO.

Tras reiniciar tropecientas veces sin resultado, de repente reincio una vez más y... Ubuntu arranca correctamente!! Y no solo eso, sino que todo funciona correctamente!! Más contento que unas castañuelas activo los efectos de escritorio para ver el cubo y las ventanas gelatinosas. Todo funciona correctamente, fluidísimo. No me lo podía creer!! Sin embargo no duraría mucho, tras reiciciar el ordenador una vez más me encuentro con que Ubuntu no arranca y se queda en pantalla negra, igual que al principio. Sin embargo reiniciando unas 6 o 7 veces más (imaginaros la paciencia que tengo

) finalmente vuelve arrancar, y de nuevo todo funciona bien, (aceleración 3D incluida) como si no hubiese pasado nada.

¿Vosotros le veis alguna explicación a esto? No me explico como es posible que arranque unas veces bien y otras mal, si al arrancar se supone que siempre se realiza el mismo proceso. ¿Por qué unas veces si y otras no?

La única pista que tengo es que las veces que arrancaba bien (y algunas que no también) me salía este mensaje en pantalla durante uno o dos segundos:

La linea del asterisco naranja, la única en la que no pone [OK], me dice que edite el archivo /etc/Defaul/Saned, cuyo contenido es el siguiente:

He cambiado la opción RUN a "yes", y ahora me aparece un mensaje casi igual:

Sin embargo me sigue ocurriendo exáctamente lo mismo. Ubuntu sigue arrancando cuando quiere y cuando arranca todo funciona perfectamente. ¿Alguna idea? :-?

Podrias postear los logs de cuando arranca bien y cuando no (/var/log/Xorg.0.log[.old]) para tener una idea de por que esta fallando en inicializar el controlador de video. La "pista" que mencionas no tiene nada que ver con el problema de la grafica, y el mensaje que se muestra solo es de carácter informativo y no un error en si.

P.D.: alguna razon para que estes usando el .sh de la pagina de ATI/AMD y no los paquetes del repositorio?

De acuerdo, voy a probar unas cuantas veces y te traigo los logs que me comentas!!

Lo del mensaje pensaba que era un error porque no ponía [OK] como en los demás, y encima ese color naranja... jejeje Pero en fin, no le haré más caso.

He probado tres drivers: los libres, los de los repositorios y los de la web de ati. En los 3 me ha exactamente lo mismo, (lo de arrancar tras muchos intentos) pero curiosamente con los dos primeros el sistema se me vuelve muy inestable, al intentar acceder a la ventana de configuración de pantalla se me clapa el sistema y tengo que reiniciar. Y es curioso, porque tenía entendido que los de los repositorios y los de la web de ati eran los mismos!!

los paquetes del repositorio para las ATI peta, si, resulta que por algun motivo los ubuntu 9.04 usan los controladores privativos porque supuestamente ATI se los ha cedido para la distro (o un rollo así leí), y con la buena suerte que no rulan bien del todo los ubuntu en sistemas con gráficas ATI.
Yo estoy ahora mismo en 8.10, probé instalar 2 veces el 9.04 y di con una solucion que ahora te añadiré pero que no te recomiendo ya que no se solucionó nada en mi caso, puede que el tuyo sea distinto (yo tengo una X1600).

Mi experiencia con una ati X550, ubuntu y driver privativo de ATI ha sido sinceramente, nefasta. Con beryl aún me funcionaba bien, pero el sistema se me volvía muy inestable.... U os olvidais de compiz, o cambiais de tarjeta gráfica.

Vaya basura, la verdad que es una putada, pues como novato en Ubuntu, necesito tener el mejor rendimiento posible para los juegos etc.

Incluso con la nueva versión 9.5 que se ha filtrado, se me peta con una x1600, pero antes de que pase y se distersione se me ve el wallpaper (en el anterior ni eso).... [mamaaaaa]

Al parecer han quitado definitivamente soporte a las tarjetas que no son nuevas... (Incluido Windows)

Aun tengo esperanzas de que recapaciten....

No lo creo, desde marzo anunciaron que a partir de la 9.4 iban a quitar el soporte a las R300-R500, y no queda más opción que usar el driver libre xf86-video-ati o seguir usando la 9.3 (hasta que salga una nueva version del kernel/xorg y no funcione mas).

El problema es que no va la 9.3 con el nuevo Ubuntu.... pues nada a seguir con el que tengo, que mas o menos funciona.
