After downloading universal and packages iso I boot from cd. The firt thing that is annoying is that it starts with a cool graphical interface, but it does not show you "Press F2 for verbose mode". It is said when keymap selection is already passed!. Gentoo should show verbose mode BY DEFAULT, probably you thing that one who wants to install 2005.0 has already installed hundreds of previous versions of gentoo and he know hotkeys, but probably has not and even he won´t know that keymap selection at startup is possible. Easy things are most effective.
No, gentoo no debe ser 'verbose' por defecto, eso lo decide el releng que de esto sabe algo mas que tu.
Second thing is that emerge and portage tools are crappy, are hard to configure and do not work as they should. After following the gentoo handbook that comes within bootable cd I try to emerge coldplug (it says needs hotplug)
After trying many configurations fon installing emerge (--usepkg, --usepkgonly, -K, etc...) I am unable to install either a package or either other.
Además de no estar bien expresado ("either a package or either other") resulta que el que a lo mejor es crappy eres tu. Básicamente las 'portage tools' funcionan bastante bien para todo el mundo menos para ti... ¿dónde crees que puede estar el problema?
It says could not download hotplug.tar.gz, there are no packages to availvable to satisfy hotplug or "dev-libs/glib-1.2", emerging by path is broken and may not work, you need to adjust PKGDIR (I already did adjust PKGDIR, i was able to install gnome but kde depends on lots of thing that emerge is unable to find), i had to install mysql by hand, etc...
A saber qué comando usarias para instalar... me parece a mi que poca documentación leiste.
Third thingis that X does not work propely either as it should. Simply running X -configure it outputs lots of errors, for esample:
(WW) RADEON: No matching Device Section for instalnce (BUSID PCI:1:0:1) found
xorg is not able to detect your mouse. I have never had such problems with other ditros like ubuntu, fedora, redhat, mandrake, suse, dyne:bolic, PCLinuxOS, knoppix even other versions of gentoo like 2004.x where X where configured properly. Using the xorg.conf of fc3 does not work either using xdm or gdm.
Para empezar que ni yo entiendo qué quieres decir... pero vamos, que yo no he tenido problemas en configurar las X nunca... 'X -configure' fallará igual en cualquier distribución que lo hagas ya que no depende de la distribución si no de 'upstream'.
you have to specify -t ext3 when you have to mount an ext3 partition, I hope that there are no worse bugs than that if we consider that this is the default program for a official gentoo distribution....
->UPSTREAM
I have not tested yet sound in 2005.0, but probably should not work as usual (did not with 2004.x an on)
Una cosa más que es independiente de la distribución.

Como ves en ese hilo, parece ser que casi todo el que contestó no tenía problemas... una vez más los bugs no son del software si no de quien los usa.
Recibe un cordial saludo.
