Both Sega and Capcom will be in Cologne in August after both publishers missed out in 2010. Sega pulled out for “commercial reasons, while Capcom lamented a lack of line-up for the latter half of late 2010 and early 2011 as its explanation for not showing up.
Valve will also appear at the show following a non-attendance at E3, although what we’ll see bar maybe DotA 2 is unknown as yet.
All three first-parties – Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo – are all confirmed for Cologne as well, just in case you were worried one or all of them pulled out for some silly reason.
There’s a full list of who’s attending at GoNintendo. gamescom takes place in Cologne, Germany between August 17-22.
Kaos staff left jobless by THQ’s closure of the New York studio may find a new home with Just cause developer Avalanche.
Avalanche is planning to open a new branch in New York this year. The new studio’s managing director, David Grijns, told Develop “most” Kaos staff had already approached Avalanche.
“We will certainly be interviewing many of them for our open positions and doing what we can to help,” he said.
“We have big plans for our New York studio and for our next project and we will have more news to share in the coming months.”
Grijns commented that Homefront’s vaguely-worded closure was a cause for concern.
“It is always troubling to us when a publisher shuts down a studio with the only explanation being ‘a strategic realignment of resources,’” he said.
“We think Kaos and New York City as a whole deserved better than this.”

id Software tech chief John Carmack has said that the studio looking at the “possibilities” on what Quake 5 could be revolved around.
He was quick to say that nothing was rolling officially, though.
“We went from the Quake 2 and the Quake 4 Strogg universe. We are at least tossing around the possibilities of going back to the bizarre, mixed up Cthulhu-ish Quake 1 world and rebooting that direction,” Carmack told EG.
“We think that would be a more interesting direction than doing more Strogg stuff after Quake 4. We certainly have strong factions internally that want to go do this.
“But we could do something pretty grand like that, that still tweaks the memory right in all of those ways, but is actually cohesive and plays with all of the strengths of the level we’re at right now.”
id CEO Todd Hollenshead added: “People shouldn’t worry that we’re ever going to orphan or abandon Quake. We are huge fans of the game internally.”
id’s next game, RAGE, releases in October for PS3, 360 and PC. DOOM 4 is next afterwards.
Since its announcement, there has been a bit of controversy surrounding the Ninja Theory-developed DmC Devil May Cry. Fans worry over the new developer, the new look, and new direction the game looks to be taking.
Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya, now of Platinum Games, expressed his dislike of the new Dante in the past. Questioned on Twitter recently, he said his company would take up the job, if Capcom gave it to them.
“Ask Capcom,” he replied to a fan asking Kamiya-san to “come back and fix this problem.”
Asked if Platinum would be on board for developing the game if Capcom offered, he said: “Sure. We’re ready.”

Sony will choose to release more PS3 HD collections if there's "significant demand" and "a sense of franchise," SCE Europe boss Andrew House has told CVG.
HD collections seemed to be a theme of this year's E3, with Konami announcing Metal Gear Solid, Zone of the Enders and Silent Hill updates, and even Microsoft getting in on the action with Halo Combat Evolved: Anniversary.
But according to the SCEE president, to repurpose titles across the whole PlayStation library would be "a negative trend", and it has to consider its candidates based on specific criteria.
"Clearly there's a consumer demand for [HD updates], but what we've done is to say, 'we'll do this where it's appropriate, where there is a sense of a franchise with multiple titles that are associated with it, and where we've heard from consumers that there's significant demand'," he told CVG's E3 team in LA.
"But I don't think we're in the business of repurposing content across the whole library because yes, I think that would be a negative trend and I think would be received negatively also."
In the same interview, House stated that Sony views a decade as the minimum lifespan of the PlayStation 3.

Blizzard Entertainment is hiring again and has opened around 150+ positions globally for developers to join one of their development teams. Available job positions can be visible here. Positions that are listed under the link are on the global level.
Together with this news, Blizzard Entertainment listed all the available positions for their Diablo 3 development team.
Currently, Blizzard's Diablo team is looking for :
* Quest Designer/ Scripter
* Senior Quest Designer/Scripter
* Game Designer
* Senior Writer
* Senior Software Engineer, Server
* Art Department Manager
* Lead Animator
* Senior Software Engineer, Console—Playstation 3 Specialist
* Senior Software Engineer, Console—Graphics Specialist
* Senior Software Engineer, Console—Network Specialist
Two latest positions (bold above) that were added are direct proof that there is Diablo's console port in development. Earlier this month, we wrote that Blizzard has announced on their website that they are looking for Senior Software Engineer, Console Playstation 3 Specialist and now it seems they are expanding their console team. So instead of possible console development, now we can say it is probable.
Grand Theft Auto V is in development for release next year, sources “close” to Rockstar have told GameSpot. The game is reportedly “well underway,” with the final touches such as mini-games currently being applied. The 2012 release was said to be “pretty likely,” and the game’s scale vast.
“It’s the big one,” said the source.
Earlier today, SystemLink discovered the resume of a Rockstar New England employe who “made and put in a mini-game system which is driven by data [and] can be edited on the go” for an unannounced game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Previous rumors have labelled the game as a Los Angeles-based Grand Theft Auto.
