"Tomorrow, finally a certain announcement will be complete. Countdown Start," Grasshopper Manufacture head Goichi Suda teased on Twitter. At least this countdown won’t go on for weeks. Tomorrow in Japan is just a few hours away.
Since Shadow of the Damned and the downloadable Kinect game Codename D, two titles from Grasshopper Manufacture, were announced right before Tokyo Game Show I wonder what this is going to be about.
A recent tweet by the legendary developer and the creator of series like Metal Gear and Snatcher revealed that work has begun regarding the developer's next personal project with core team members holding a meeting to discuss the future direction of the project. Here's what the tweet read -
Had our first meeting for the next "A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME" with the core team members today. Some member are also participating on "RISING" so 10 people total this time. We will have a meeting every morning to discuss planning, testing, research, and scouting. An open environment to talk about important issues and share our dreams and concept for the project.
The tweet suggests that a team of 10 people will be leading the development process for Hideo's next. What could it be? Our bet is on a new IP or a new MGS game. What do you think?

Key LucasArts figures who've since left the studio are revealing their new project, Fearless Studios. The new Marin, CA studio has been co-founded by award winning Force Unleashed writer and producer Haden Blackman and Cedrick Collomb, LucasArts' former engineering director.
Speaking to Gamasutra about his new Bay Area-based venture, Blackman says the studio's naming is a reflection of its intention to focus on both the creative risks he feels are necessary to push new ideas in the gaming space, as well as the kind of "tough" honesty, both internally and with publishing and technology partners, it takes to execute them successfully.
"The underlying philosophy of the studio is we want all those things to sit on a bed of smart tech decisions," Blackman tells us. He brings the creative vision and Collomb makes an ideal collaborative mind on the technology infrastructure: "We both are of the same mindset about what we want in a studio."
After years of working on the Star Wars brand, Blackman says he was ready to "try to build my own sandbox... I had a great time working with LucasArts for 15 years, I had a fantastic time working in the Star Wars universe," he reflects. "I had a great time playing in someone else's sandbox, and now it's time to go build my own."
The motivation comes from a drive to explore other content genres as well as other fame genres, he says.
"The whole point of any independent developer, and the reason most people do it, is they want more control over the types of games they make, who they make them with, and how they make it," he says. In over a decade of working together, Blackman says he and Collomb learned they had the same kinds of ideas of how games should be made and how structure should be set on a studio level.
"We wanted to try to build a culture where all those things could really come to the fore and reflect our ideals," he says. "The reason we left wasn't dissatisfaction with LucasArts or the changes that happened there recently," Blackman adds. Just two months after he left the studio, it announced a realignment and reorganization that included a number of layoffs.
Only a month or so ago we revealed that EA had registered the domain name for a certain 'Sims 4'. Thing is, registering a domain name and actually making a game are two different things. It's nice to see that EA are doing both.
Over on Gamasutra, we noticed that EA are 'currently looking for artists and engineers for SIMS'. Why?"The studio that brought you The SimsTM is looking for gameplay programmer/generalists to help build a new experience in The Sims legacy."
'New experience' is longhand for 'the next game with a number at the end'. Don't expect Sims 4 anytime soon, though - if there's money to be wrangled out of souls playing Sims 3 via expansion packs, you can be sure EA will squeeze out every last penny.

¿Llegará a occidente?

Airtight Games, the developer behind last year’s Dark Void, has a job listing posted for a “triple-A” PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 title.
Per the listing on Gamasutra: “We are now working on several new AAA titles for a variety of markets. This is a chance to get on board a unique project with a quality focused development and publishing team.”
Portal developer Kim Swift joined Airtight last year to work on a “mystery project” so this may well be it. Maybe.
Whatever the title is, the firm looks to be using Unreal 3 on it.
Last we heard on Dark Void, which was panned a bit by game critics, Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment secured the rights to a film adaptation of it.

Of late, Hideo Kojima has been tweeting about projects he has in the works again, with some interesting thoughts on game development voiced along the way. Kojima’s most recent tweets are to do with his next major game.
He begins by briefly touching upon the subject of differences in the style of development between Japan and the West:
“The differences between the creators in Japan and the West in this industry… Japanese creators try to express the game’s environment through beautiful artwork, but western developers use technology to draw out the environment. The Japanese make the models and textures carefully to create a world. The West use shaders, lighting, shadows, effects, and programming to create their world.”
Following up this tweet, Kojima mentioned that he’s specifically asking his team to abandon the idea of creating “pretty images” for their next game. Instead, he wants them to create a “beautiful world,” indicating that perhaps he’s more interested in the overall aesthetic rather than details such as texture resolution or individual assets. He writes:
“For my next project, I’m going to mention to the staff to throw out the old ways of production. Do not create pretty images, create a beautiful world. Designers shouldn’t focus only on their part, but also borrow the programmer’s strength to maximize the quality. We shouldn’t measure quality by parts, we will measure by the quality and completion of the entire world.”
And finally, a last tweet on the subject reads as follows:
Had our first meeting for the next “A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME” with the core team members today. Some member are also participating on [Metal Gear Solid] “RISING” so 10 people total this time. We will have a meeting every morning to discuss planning, testing, research, and scouting. An open environment to talk about important issues and share our dreams and concept for the project.
So, while Rising is very much a Metal Gear Solid game, it’s not a Hideo Kojima game. Kojima has stated this numerous times in the past as well.

The game is “pretty far out”, said Visceral Games label general manager Nick Earl.
Earl is head of action and strategy games at EA under the new label, and is looking to leverage brands out of its successful studios.
“Regardless of which particular geography, everyone feels like they’re part of one group. Think about the DICE brand as becoming a strong FPS brand with games like Battlefield, Bad Company 2, and with BioWare being a strong brand for RPGs – we’re trying to do that inside the action space, where EA has not had a strong position for some time,” he said.
The last big C&C title was EALA’s Command and Conquer 4 for PC.
What genre the Visceral C&C will cover is unknown, but EA has planned action titles from the series in the past, the last one being first-person shooter Tiberium.
Announced back at the start of 2008 for PS3, 360 and PC and in development at EALA, the shooter was then cancelled in September of that year for not being up to scratch.
“The game was not on track to meet the high quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games Label. A lower-quality game is not in the best interest of the consumers and would not succeed in this market,” EA said in a statement at the time.
Earlier this year, Visceral released Dante’s Inferno for PS3, 360 and PSP. It’s currently finishing up on Dead Space 2, which will release on January 28, 2011 in the UK for PS3, 360 and PC.
EA today revealed details about MicroBot, a unique gameplay experience taking players inside the human body. The new arcade-style shooter, which will be available Winter 2011 on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, challenges gamers to control a microscopic ship—a MicroBot—on a mission to destroy a biotechnological infestation.
MicroHexon Research has invented a transformative medical technology: autonomous nanotech machines that are no larger than a blood cell. When injected into the body they target and eliminate diseases at the cellular level. However, something has gone dangerously awry. The nanomachines have bonded to the diseased cells and are now multiplying inside the body at an exponential rate. Piloting a new prototype MicroBot, players must seek and destroy the infection before it consumes the human host from the inside.
In MicroBot, players battle malicious enemies as they travel through veins, bones, lungs and brain. The rhythms and fluids of the human body create a dynamic environment that affects movement and gameplay, providing both combat advantages and additional hazards to overcome. Just as each human body is unique, MicroBot dynamically creates new levels to ensure that the challenge is different every time gamers play.
As players eradicate the biotechnological infestation, they will harvest data fragments which allow them to unlock over 20 pieces of upgradable microtechnology. Using this newly acquired technology, players can strategically customize their MicroBot with powerful weapons, defensive systems, movement parts, and special abilities. With millions of possible configurations, players can build a MicroBot to suit any style of play.
“We wanted to take gamers to a place they have rarely visited before — the world inside the human body. The fluid dynamics of the world and the customization of the MicroBot come together to create a unique take on the arcade shooter genre”, said Jason Haber of Electronic Arts. “MicroBot is an energetic and addictive game that is perfect for anyone that plays games on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.”
Players can take on the infection together by teaming up in a cooperative drop-in/drop-out multiplayer experience. Not only will players battle side-by-side, but they can also upgrade their MicroBots simultaneously in the innovative co-op editor, where they work together to create the ultimate MicroBot team.
