Retropie CRT Edition - Raspberry pi 2B/3B/3B+ - TV 15Khz (vga666 / pi2scart / rgb-pi)

Redemp escribió:The catver.ini as mentionen here Updating catver.ini and other metadata #759
has since long been out of date and in need of an update.

Several weeks ago i finally started the long and tedious process of categorizing 4920 games and updating it to Mame 0.221 standards.

An hour here, 15 minutes there and so on. It's finally complete.
This was something i wanted to do for a long time.
Well i hope you all like it.

mame2003-plus catver.ini based upon mame 0.221 catver

Thanks again Redemp, as you said, prepare this files usually are a tedious task.
In regard on previous repository, I think I will be able to give compatibility to some additional system like ones asked by @jimiz. This probably will take long because it's necessary to prepare so much things among other, themes and integration with the launching system.

I have almost ready new release of Retropie CRT Edition v2.0 with a lot of changes:
  • New image from the scratch based on Retropie 4.6 (buster) (still only compatible until Raspberry pi 3b+)
  • New configuration utility, consolidating all previous utilities like usb automount and cable selector and... other surprises... :)
  • Configuration utility is now full available from TATE mode and image center utility is full adapted to the same.
  • Lot of changes for optimizing and cleaning.

salu2 y gracias
Great, I'm using crt-pi at the moment but am quite unsatisfied w/ their support. I like retropie but, I'm always confused with the different resolutions going on...

Could someone clear out the differences between rgbpi and retropie crt for me?
Buenas!

@-krahs-

Great! Can't wait to trying this out when i get back from vacation!
@-krahs-

console=serial0,115200 console=tty3 root=PARTUUID=97a6378b-02 rootfstype=ext4 elevator=deadline fsck.repair=yes rootwait loglevel=3 consoleblank=0 plymouth.enable=0 logo.nologo usbhid.quirks=0x0314:0x0328:0x040

usbhid.quirks=0x[vendor]:0x[product]:0x040
Ok, perfecto.

Me alegro XD

Gracias.
Why remove 270p support? Emulationstation looked much nicer and the retropie setup menus were readible, now in 240p they are too wide and half the text is off the screen. I think you should keep 270p as an option, it looks much nicer on my TV, if one prefers 240p they could choose to use it. Please bring back 270p.

Also I just noticed some MAME games aren't working loke the Mortal Kombat series just shows a black screen when it was working in the previous version.

Hi.
Can you attach a picture of how is looking EmulationStation in your TV and also of the center utility? Configs menus are not so readable than in 270p but enough. Text don't should be out of the screen, maybe you need to adjust the image on your tv to fit on the screen.

270p is not going to come back.

Mortal Kombat is working as usual...
Emulationstation is working OK, even though text looks much bigger the issue are the retropie setup screen are too large to know what's going on.
As you can see on Retropie setup screens in 270p I can read the whole text while in 240p half the text is off screen:

https://i.imgur.com/jnGvhjx.jpg

Also on version 1.1 Mortal Kombat 2 loads perfectly on 2.0 it loads to a black screen and stays that way until I exit the game, I'm using the same rom hard drive on both cases so it's not a rom problem:

THANK YOU so much for this amazing CRT retropie! I am loving it! [beer] [plas]

One problem though - I wanted to enter my WiFi info, but my password uses the @ symbol, and it is not available in the onscreen keyboard. I tried plugging in a physical keyboard but it does not work.

Please, can you add @ to the available characters?

Hi t0nito.
For me is working perfectly fine even I've checked the resolutions that are applied whether CROPPED or FORCED modes and are exactly the same in EVO 1.1 than EVO 2.0 so there is no any kind of problem with that.
I've realized accordingly to your videos that you have power issues in your instalation (yellow lightning bolt on top right corner) so i suggest to you to change as soon as possible your current power suppy and try to get one able to give at least 3A, specially if you are using some USB external devices like an external hard disk and multiple joysticks.

This, combined with some other changes that you could have applied like CPU gobernor or overclocking could explain the problem.

What i can ensure is there is no problem with resolutions.

Ok, I have already ordered a new power supply almost two months ago but it hasn't arrived yet, I'll try it when it finally arrives, in the meantime I guess I'll have to stick with version 1.1.
Really thanks -krahs- ! super update 2.0 and hope come soon more systems...

One question , IS possible do the update directly (total including cores etc ..) to 2.0 directly from the bartop by wirless or am I obliged to rewrite the image from the beginning with the newimage file 2.0 on my sd card?
I ask because I have everything on a 128 GB SD, and I feel bad if I have to put all the roms and media back ...
because I must first transfer everything to PC, then via linux system put the dozens of GB of roms back on the sd ... for hours of transfer.
before proceeding I ask ....

thanks again.

I was using everything from 128Gb mSD also, but it is a lot of trouble IMO.

I have now started using all roms and isos from USB stick instead (just turn on USB storage in the CRT utility), and it's MUCH easier to now to add roms and stuff, and you will less chance of corrupting your system card.

One note - if you do start using USB storage, be sure to have the PS1 BIOS file SCPH1001.BIN present in BIOS folder or PS1 games will not run at good speeds.
Thanks .... right! I understand, the usb is a valid alternative but given the size (my roms / media) perhaps wiser and more convenient a good ssd (usb) hardisk ... (if it works)

however my main question is whether you can do a (complete) update from 1.1> 2.0 directly from the menu in operation (via wifi), without having to rewrite the SD image from scratch ....
Great release! Thank you for your great job!

I have a question for both versions, is it possible to know the shell command to change the setting related to the connection hardware (RGB-PI, Pi2scart..ecc..)? Because I don't see any image on my new cabinet thus I cannot choose the hardware...(I have a jamma-RGB-PI compatible board), if there is a CLI command I will be able to do it via ssh.

Please let me know...

Thanks!
Is there any Pi to Scart type adapter yet for rPi 4?

They have some cool stuff running on Pi 4 now, like Dreamcast and Naomi arcade games... [sonrisa]
already with the pi3 some dreamcast games are playable, as well as some of the psp ...
for example crazy tahy and virtual tennis, which are 2 very famous coinops, on the pi3 they let themselves be played enough (even if a little jerky) .... you have to wait for a version to be released that finally opens the doors to all these systems. [beer]

Questions

How update to 2.0 without rewrite the image (and roms too) to SD ?

Is there a complete list of all the emulators / systems supported in version 2.0 (first page not udpate) ?
2.0 added only x68000 or something else (for example vic 20 etc ...)?

thank you
Some questions:

1) Where do I put samples for FinalBurn?

2) If I use the video screen saver, where do I put the video files? What folder?

I tried making a video folder on my usb stick but it doesn't see the videos there.

Thanks.
WITH THIS CRT EVO in any mame/advmame...no vector games work!!!!

asteroids, asteroids deluxe, tempest, ecc...
Commodore 64 - fire button on joystick input does not respond, only up/down/left/right
please can anyone check if, with version 2.00, irem games like r-type are seen well? unfortunately it is a problem that I have encountered with all releases in 240p mode.

there is also a noticeable drop in performance on cps3 games. thank you all
Hi,
I tried the 2.0 image, much better menu integration, good work.
I copied my old bios and rom folder from the previous backup and also some config files from config folder for the emulators core I use (mame libretro and fba) and fba tate and mame tate no longer rotate, now I have vertical games on a horizontal screen.
How can I launch the vertical game on a rotated vertical (full) screen?
Hola!

Voy a ello.

HI

no mame vector game arcade work with this retropie crt

like asteroid, ast.deluxe, battlezone, tempest and many more...

sure resolution problems because (roms are ok) not give any possibility to change emu...3-4 seconds black screen and again on list menu!

PLEASE FIX SOLUTION...... those games are coinops history!!!
@claudiazan

There is an small bug I'll fix for the next release.
In the meantime you can fix it easily:
1) Edit file /opt/retropie/configs/all/CRT/bin/GeneralModule/launcher_module/screen.py
2) In line 305 change "return DEFAULT_RE" to "return DEFAULT_RES"

Thx!
