PS3 set to deliver worldwide daily news

During the Sony Strategic Meeting in Tokyo today, Sony announced a service that will allow PS3 owners to view daily world news interactively.

The system, billed under their Life with PlayStation brand, allows you to zoom around a virtual globe (not unlike the one in the Folding@Home application) and gain world news from various cities. The service will allow later on for geo-tagged pictures to be viewed on the globe, and is part of a whole slew of non-game services Sony are planning for the future.

The idea is a simple one. Since many people switch on their TVs in the morning to get news of what is going on, Sony want you to switch on your PS3 as well and use that to deliver the information you require, whilst playing music in the background and linking into other services to be announced in the future.

Since this new Life with PlayStation brand has been announced in a Strategic Meeting that concentrated on services that will be launched before March 2009, I think we can assume these new features will appear in the following eight months. - ps3attitude.com

Ahi podemos ver el claro ejemplo de los 'anuncios dinamicos' mi pregunta es... para la gente que no se conecte a internet no veran anuncios? o solo veran los predefinidos? que será será... xD por lo que indican las cifras de gente registrada al PSN ya podrian empezar a plantearse lanzar Home.

Por lo visto dicen que lo del video bajo demanda saldrá primero en USa y más tarde en Japón y Europa.

Vamos, en Japón no sé yo, pero aquí en Europa ya veo que será otra cosa que tardará una eternidad en llegar...

La verdad es que yo también veo bastante lejano esto del video por demanda aquí en Europa, con las conexiones que tenemos en algunos paises no se yo...

Por lo que muestra esta foto, los presentes en la conferencia se pararon para irse..ya habían visto el mismo video

Veremos que tal funciona esto.

Durante la conferencia también se ha dado a conocer que el chip gráfico RSX de 65nm llegará a partir de este Otoño.


PS3 Graphics Chip Goes 65nm in Fall

Kaz Hirai said during a Thursday PlayStation business briefing that Sony has been cutting PS3 manufacturing costs by reducing the number of components and decreasing the size of chips.

"The Cell and RSX used in PS3s at launch were manufactured using a 90nm process technology. And now all PS3 Cells have shifted to 65nm process technology since last holiday season," he said.

The smaller chip technology runs more efficiently and costs less to produce.

While the improved Cell is in circulation, the RSX graphics chip, created in tandem with Nvidia, still uses 90nm technology.

But a more efficient RSX will be in PS3s shortly, Hirai says. "As for RSX, 65nm process technology has begun this year already, and will be ready for installment in autumn."
